HIS Commercial Aircraft Science Showcase Successfully Held
As global aviation technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, the boundaries of education are being redefined.
Recently, Hailiang International School (HIS) proudly concluded the final Professional Aviation Basic Course (PBA) Showcase. This inspiring event—where technology, exploration, and imagination converged—beautifully demonstrated the limitless possibilities of aviation education. More importantly, it revealed how the seeds of scientific curiosity have already begun to take root in young minds.

A CELEBRATION OF INNOVATION:
STUDENTS TAKE CENTER STAGE
“Look! This is how I used Bernoulli’s principle to explain lift!”、“The curvature of the wing changes airflow speed and creates upward force!”
At the exhibition booths, students confidently presented their self-designed aircraft models and inquiry reports. From lower-grade explorations of aircraft types to upper-grade demonstrations of flight principles, every presentation sparkled with curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

This was far more than a display of knowledge—it was a vivid reflection of the HIS Professional Aviation Basic Course philosophy of learning by doing. Acting as “young aviation engineers,” students transformed abstract theories into tangible understanding through hands-on construction, experimentation, and creative expression.
Teachers on the judging panel were visibly impressed.“What we see is not only well-crafted projects,” one teacher noted, “but also the scientific curiosity and logical thinking shining in the students’eyes.” A Grade 7 student shared excitedly, “I used to think flight was just magic. Now I’ve proven the principle of lift myself—aviation science is amazing!”

FROM OBSERVERS TO CREATORS:
HOW EDUCATION IGNITES CURIOSITY
“Isn’t aviation science too difficult for young learners?” HIS answers this question with action.

The core of education lies not in how advanced the content is, but in whether it can ignite a child’s passion for exploration. As the course coordinator shared, “We are not simply delivering knowledge—we are lighting the spark of science. Through hands-on learning, students come to understand aviation, love it, and grow into future innovators with scientific literacy and creativity.”
Over the course of the semester, students progressed from understanding aircraft structures to exploring airflow and lift, and eventually to designing and optimizing their own flying models. Knowledge was actively constructed, challenges were solved collaboratively, and innovation emerged through continuous experimentation and reflection.
A SPIRAL CURRICULUM DESIGNED FOR GROWTH
Grounded in students’ cognitive development from primary to secondary levels, the HIS Professional Aviation Basic Course follows a four-stage learning framework: Inspiration–Perception–Exploration- Creation.

Starting with the question “What is an airplane?”, students engage with aviation videos, interactive experiments, and creative builds to demystify flight. As they advance, topics such as Principles of Flight and Modern Commercial Aircraft are explored through Project-Based Learning (PBL): designing wind tunnel experiments, investigating cutting-edge aviation technologies, and collaboratively refining aircraft models.

The curriculum is carefully structured with a spiral progression—core concepts deepen with each grade level, while skill expectations steadily rise. This ensures every student is challenged just beyond their comfort zone, enabling meaningful and sustainable growth.

A NEW BEGINNING:
DREAMS READY FOR TAKEOFF

At the closing ceremony, school leaders and representatives from the Hi-Class+ presented certificates to the outstanding “Aviation Stars,” encouraging students to continue exploring with courage and curiosity. Amid applause and excitement, the students’ eyes shone with confidence and ambition.

“May every child who loves aviation carry this curiosity and bravery into the future—reaching for the vast sky of science and technology, and crafting their own horizons with wisdom and creativity.”

At Hailiang International School, the Professional Aviation Basic Course nurtures more than aviation knowledge. It cultivates scientific thinking, innovative spirit, and a global perspective—building a runway from today’s classroom to tomorrow’s sky.
