Beyond Spelling: Celebrating Language, Confidence, and Global Communication at HIS

Date 2025.4.24

In a multilingual learning environment, students are encouraged to study Chinese while developing strong English communication skills, allowing language to become a bridge to culture, confidence, and global understanding. This spirit of language exploration was also reflected in the exciting closing moments of the Spelling Bee.

To ease the intensity of the competition, a wonderful dubbing show was arranged at the end of the event. Four girls from Class G8-2 brought the characters to life with their expressive voices. Judy’s bravery and Nick’s sly charm were vividly portrayed, while the student who voiced Flash especially impressed the audience by perfectly capturing his slow, humorous speaking style. It was as if the movie Zootopia had come alive on stage.

Students were fully immersed in the performance, further sharpening their sensitivity to English pronunciation and intonation. This dubbing show enriched the cultural dimension of the competition, allowing students to experience the charm of English from multiple perspectives while inspiring their lasting enthusiasm and curiosity for English learning.

Throughout the thrilling and intense competition, international students from different countries fully demonstrated their strong vocabulary knowledge. With quick thinking and outstanding composure, they won rounds of applause from the audience. As the final exciting round came to an end, this unforgettable vocabulary feast gradually drew to a close.

This Spelling Bee provided students with a stage to showcase themselves, allowing them to improve their English proficiency through competition and enhancing their understanding of different cultures through communication.

Throughout the competition, students not only gained spelling skills but also teamwork spirit, cross-cultural communication ability, as well as passion and persistence for English learning.

The students in HIS have also achieved excellent results in the IELTS exams. Ten students in G12-2 achieved excellent results with an IELTS score of 7 or above. Among them, Niya led the way with an overall score of 8.5 and a full score of 9 in reading and listening. Four students in G11-2 also achieved a score of 7 or above in IELTS, and it is expected that this number will continue to increase in the next semester.

These results fully demonstrate the excellent English teaching quality at HIS, and also prove the effective teaching philosophy here, providing students with a solid language base to accept the challenge on a global scale.

In the future, Hailiang International School will continue to hold more language activities, further embedding our English teaching system, strengthening cooperation and exchange with international educational resources, and continuously improving our teaching quality.

We will provide a broader language learning and communication platform for our students and help them explore the world and embrace the future in the wave of globalisation with a solid language foundation and an open and tolerant cultural mindset.
